Shibori Curtains: Biophilia Integration In Urban Spaces

Post some brainstorming, we found a plausible solution for this problem in the embrace of a textile. A popular Japanese method of tie dyeing, Shibori, was our inspiration to solve the problem.

With the interplay of dyed and untouched areas, the fabric retains its translucency in patterns that can be controlled through the dyeing process. It not only allows us to integrate biophilia as we see fit, but also lets us play with the design element of chiaroscuro with architecture.

Furthermore, the multitude of types of Shibori enable us to play around and experiment with different tying techniques resulting in different designs, each creating a unique impression which can be translated into a structure. Our metaphor and how we interpret Shibori as a tool in the architectural world is our solution to integrate biophilia in urban spaces.
